Artificial insemination (AI) is the process of collecting sperm cells from a male animal and manually depositing them into the reproductive tract of a female. It is commonly used instead of natural mating in many species of animals because of the many benefits it can reap. These benefits include increased safety of the animals and producer, increased production efficiency and better genetics. This book is written for practicing veterinarians, veterinary students and animal breeding managers. It provides practical information on the reproductive management of both thoroughbred and warmblood breeding operations. The reader will be able to find detailed description of practical procedures or techniques in areas such as male management, female management, artificial insemination with fresh, cooled or frozen semen, embryo transfer, semen evaluation, etc. These procedures can be implemented on most breeding farms that use both natural over or artificial insemination.
